Charcoal

Charcoal is a processed fuel resource produced at the Charcoal Kiln by burning Hardwood. It is the essential fuel for all smelting operations in Windrose, making it one of the most important mid-game resources. Without a steady Charcoal supply, metal production grinds to a halt.

To produce Charcoal, place Hardwood into the Charcoal Kiln. Each piece of Hardwood yields 2 Charcoal and 1 Ash as a byproduct. Hardwood is harvested from Divi-divi trees found on mid-tier islands. Setting up a Charcoal Kiln near a Hardwood-rich area streamlines the production pipeline.

Charcoal serves as the fuel component in smelting recipes at both the standard Smelting Furnace and the Large Smelting Furnace. Copper Ingots require 1 Charcoal per smelt (alongside 6 Copper Ore), and Iron Ingots similarly need 1 Charcoal (alongside 3 Foothills Iron Ore). The Ash byproduct is also valuable, feeding into Gunpowder production at the Millstone.
