Island

The Starting Island is every player's first home in Windrose, serving as the Tier 1 tutorial zone where the fundamentals of survival, crafting, and combat are introduced. This lush tropical island features golden sandy beaches, dense inland forests, and rocky outcroppings that conceal the entrance to the Copper Caves. The island is deliberately designed to teach new players the game's core mechanics at a manageable pace, with plentiful resources, forgiving enemy encounters, and clear pathways guiding exploration from the beach to the interior. It is a welcoming environment, but it holds enough surprises to keep attentive players engaged as they learn the ropes.

The wildlife on the Starting Island ranges from completely harmless to unexpectedly lethal. Dodos waddle along the beaches in peaceful groups, offering free Meat, Bird Meat, and Dodo Eggs to anyone willing to swing a weapon. Boars roam the grassy inland areas and provide Rough Hide and Boar Tusks, both essential for early armor crafting. However, the island also harbors the Sow, a Level 3 Animal that deals devastating damage to under-equipped players. The Copper Caves located on the island are a key early destination, containing Copper Ore deposits guarded by Crabs. Players should plan to make several trips into the caves to gather enough copper for their first set of metal tools and weapons.

Before leaving the Starting Island for the Second Island, players should aim to accomplish several key objectives. Craft a full set of basic armor using Rough Hide from Boars, gather a stockpile of cooked Meat for sustain, and mine enough Copper Ore from the Copper Caves to forge a reliable weapon. Exploring every corner of the island often reveals hidden caches, environmental storytelling, and shortcuts that reward curiosity. The Smuggler Den, a Tier 1 dungeon accessible from the island, contains a Fast Travel Bell that becomes invaluable for quick returns later in the game. Take your time on the Starting Island, because the difficulty ramps up noticeably once you set sail, and arriving at the Second Island without proper gear and supplies can set your progression back significantly.
