Rough Hide

Rough Hide is a raw animal material dropped by Boars and Sows when defeated. It is the primary leather-sourcing resource in Windrose and serves as a gateway into the armor and weapon crafting progression. Players looking to gear up beyond basic cloth will need a steady supply.

Boars and Sows roam forested areas and open grasslands on starter and mid-tier islands. They are moderately aggressive, so approach with a weapon ready. Each kill typically yields one or more Rough Hides. Hunting in groups or near your respawn point is a safe strategy for farming.

The most important use for Rough Hide is producing Tanned Leather at the Tanning Rig, which requires 2 Rough Hide and 1 Tannin per craft. Tanned Leather is then used extensively in armor crafting and weapon upgrades. Rough Hide also appears directly in a handful of early-game recipes for basic protective gear.
