Boar
Animal
The Boar is a common Animal-type enemy found roaming the open terrain and grassy plains of Windrose, ranging from Level 1 to Level 2. Unlike the passive Dodo, Boars are territorial and will charge at players who wander too close, making them a meaningful step up in difficulty for adventurers still getting their footing. They appear frequently on both the Starting Island and the Second Island, often grazing near tree lines and open fields. Their moderate health pool and predictable charge attack pattern make them an excellent training dummy for players looking to practice timing their dodges and counterattacks before tackling tougher foes.
Boars drop three key resources that remain useful well into the mid-game. Meat is the most frequent drop and serves the same cooking purposes as Dodo Meat, fueling your survival on long expeditions. Rough Hide is a crafting staple used in early armor recipes and leather-working, so farming Boars is one of the fastest ways to gear up with basic protective equipment. Boar Tusks are a rarer drop with specialized crafting applications, including certain weapon upgrades and trade value with NPCs. Players looking to build a full set of starter leather armor should prioritize Boar hunting across the open fields near the Foothills and the Starting Island meadows.
When fighting a Boar, the key tactic is to watch for its telegraphed charge. The Boar will lower its head and pause briefly before lunging forward in a straight line. Sidestep or dodge-roll to the left or right, then follow up with two or three quick melee strikes before it turns around for another pass. Ranged weapons also work well, as Boars move in predictable paths and can be kited around obstacles. Be cautious in areas where multiple Boars graze together, because pulling aggro on one can sometimes alert nearby companions. If you find yourself overwhelmed, retreat toward the beach where Dodos roam, as Boars tend not to follow past certain terrain boundaries. Bringing a basic shield significantly reduces the risk from their charge damage.
