Dodo

The Dodo is one of the first creatures players will encounter when exploring the sandy beaches of Windrose. Classified as a Level 1 Animal, this plump, flightless bird poses virtually no threat, making it an ideal target for newcomers still learning the basics of combat and resource gathering. Dodos are passive by nature, meaning they will not attack unless provoked, and even then their slow movements and lack of offensive ability make them easy to dispatch with any starting weapon. Players fresh off the tutorial on the Starting Island will find Dodos waddling along the coastline in small groups, offering a reliable and low-risk source of essential early-game materials.

Defeating a Dodo can yield several valuable drops that are critical during the opening hours of gameplay. Meat is the most common reward and serves as a primary food source when cooked at a campfire, helping players keep their hunger meter full while exploring. Bird Meat, a slightly rarer variant, is used in more advanced cooking recipes that provide stronger buffs. Perhaps the most noteworthy drop is the Dodo Egg, a versatile crafting and cooking ingredient that players should stockpile whenever possible. Dodo Eggs appear at a moderate drop rate, so farming a beach full of Dodos for a few minutes can build up a healthy supply for recipes and trading.

For gameplay strategy, there is little preparation needed before hunting Dodos. Any melee weapon will do the job, and players can simply walk up and strike without worrying about dodging or positioning. The best farming spots are the open beaches of the Starting Island and the coastal stretches of the Second Island, where Dodos spawn frequently and in decent numbers. Keep in mind that while Dodos themselves are harmless, beaches can also be home to Crabs, which are more aggressive.
