Choosing the right weapon in Windrose is one of the most impactful decisions you will make. Each of the eight weapon types has distinct attack patterns, scaling attributes, and tactical roles. This guide breaks down every weapon type so you can find the perfect fit for your playstyle.

Melee Weapons

Sabers -- The Agile Duelist's Choice

Sabers are fast, one-handed Slash weapons that scale with Agility. They offer quick combo strings and excel at weaving between dodges and attacks. The Saber family has the most variety in the game, ranging from the Common Broken Blade all the way up to named Rare weapons like the Arboris Saber and the Cutlass.

Notable sabers include the Razor, known for its raw speed, and the Dueling Saber, which rewards precise timing with bonus damage on counterattacks. Sabers pair naturally with the Flibustier's Attire armor set, whose 4-piece bonus grants +15% one-handed weapon damage.

Rapiers -- Precision Strikes

Rapiers deal Pierce damage and scale with Precision. They specialize in thrust attacks with excellent range for a one-handed weapon. The Rapier of Devastation and Rapier of a Thousand Cuts are standout Rare options, each offering distinct passive effects.

Rapier users benefit heavily from the Fencer talent branch, which includes talents like Perfect Counter and Deadly Finale that reward careful timing and combo finishers.

Clubs -- Raw Power

Clubs are heavy one-handed Crude damage weapons scaling with Strength. They hit hard and have a high knockdown chance, making them excellent for staggering enemies out of their attack animations. The Bonebreaker and Smasher are popular Rare choices.

The unique Swamp Creature's Tooth drops from Swamp Creatures in the Tier 3 Cursed Swamps biome and represents one of the strongest clubs available. Clubs pair well with the Conquistador's Armor set for its Bulwark effect, which prevents hit interruption.

Halberds -- Reach and Control

Halberds are two-handed Crude weapons that scale with Strength. Their extended reach allows you to hit enemies before they can close the gap, making them exceptional for crowd control. The Plague Halberd and Executioner are top-tier Rare options.

The Pikeman's Armor set was practically designed for Halberd users, providing +15% two-handed weapon damage and +200 maximum Health to keep you standing in prolonged fights.

Greatswords -- Sweeping Devastation

Greatswords are two-handed Slash weapons that scale with Agility. They deliver wide, sweeping attacks that can hit multiple enemies at once. The Soul Eater is the most coveted greatsword in the game, notable for also scaling with Vitality, making it ideal for hybrid tank-DPS builds.

The Stalwart Greatsword and Dueling Greatsword offer reliable Rare-tier alternatives for players who have not yet obtained the Soul Eater.

Ranged Weapons

Pistols -- The Quick Draw

Pistols are one-handed Pierce weapons scaling with Precision. They offer fast shots ideal for opening engagements or finishing off retreating enemies. The Plague Pistol stands out as the only Epic-rarity pistol currently in the game, dealing additional damage over time.

Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol fires two shots in quick succession, making it devastating at close range. Even the Common Worn-Out Pistol can serve as a useful sidearm early in the game.

Muskets -- Long-Range Precision

Muskets are two-handed Pierce weapons that scale with Precision. They excel at long range and reward careful positioning. The Infantry Musket and Buccaneer's Friend are both strong Rare choices with different passive bonuses.

Musket users should invest heavily in the Marksman talent branch. Talents like Sniper's Focus and Extended Reach dramatically increase effective range and damage at distance. The Marksman's Rig armor set complements this with +15% Ranged Damage.

Blunderbusses -- Close-Range Devastation

Blunderbusses are two-handed Pierce weapons that uniquely scale with Agility rather than Precision. They fire a spread of projectiles that deal massive damage at close range but fall off sharply at distance.

The Dragon's Breath is the highlight of this category, with its Epic variant triggering fire explosions on hit. The Reliable Blunderbuss offers a more practical Rare alternative with reduced Gunpowder consumption at Epic rarity.

Weapon Rarity and Upgrades

Weapons come in four rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic. Higher rarity weapons have better base stats, improved attribute scaling (from D rank up to B rank), and often gain unique passive effects at Epic tier.

You can upgrade weapons at the Upgrading Station and craft new ones at the Weaponsmith. Always check the scaling letter when comparing weapons: a weapon with B-rank scaling in your primary attribute will outperform a higher-base-damage weapon with D-rank scaling as your attribute investment grows.

Choosing Your Weapon

Consider these factors when selecting a weapon type:

  • Playstyle -- Do you prefer fast combos (Saber, Rapier), heavy hits (Club, Halberd), or ranged kiting (Musket, Pistol)?

  • Attribute investment -- Match your weapon to the attribute you plan to invest in. Splitting attributes across multiple scaling types will leave you underpowered.

  • Armor synergy -- Several armor sets explicitly boost one-handed, two-handed, or ranged damage. Pick a weapon that benefits from your chosen set.

  • Talent branch -- Fencer talents favor one-handed melee, Crusher talents favor heavy weapons, and Marksman talents favor ranged. Toughguy is defensively oriented and works with any weapon.
