Rapier of a Thousand Cuts
Rapier
The Rapier of a Thousand Cuts is one of the most unique weapons in Windrose, sacrificing raw Pierce damage for a devastating Bleeding damage-over-time effect. With only 120 Pierce damage per hit, it has the lowest base damage of any Rare rapier, but this number is deceptive. Each strike applies a Bleeding stack that deals 40 damage per second, and this effect stacks up to 5 times for a total of 200 DPS in passive Bleeding damage. Once fully stacked, the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts actually outdamages most other weapons in sustained fights, making it a top-tier choice for prolonged encounters against bosses and high-health enemies.
The Epic variant of this weapon adds an extraordinary mechanic: when a bleeding target dies, the Bleeding effect transfers to nearby enemies. This chain-bleed mechanic turns the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts into a phenomenal tool for clearing groups of enemies, as each kill spreads the damage-over-time to the next target. In dense encounters, a single fully stacked enemy death can cascade into multiple kills as the 200 DPS Bleeding effect jumps from target to target. This makes the Epic version one of the strongest area-clearing weapons in the game despite being a single-target melee weapon on paper.
Players can find the Rapier of a Thousand Cuts as buried treasure on the Starting Island, making it one of the earliest Rare weapons available if you know where to look. Search the beaches and dig sites thoroughly before leaving for other biomes. For build optimization, pair this weapon with attack speed bonuses to stack Bleeding as quickly as possible, and consider accessories that boost damage-over-time effects. The Rapier of a Thousand Cuts synergizes excellently with the Cutlass in a dual-weapon setup, as you can apply Bleeding stacks, then switch to the Cutlass to build Take Aim! stacks for ranged burst while the Bleeding ticks away. It also complements team compositions where allies run the Swamp Creature's Tooth, since the Distortion debuff from critical hits can amplify damage taken by bleeding targets.
