Tanning Rig

The Tanning Rig processes raw hides into Tanned Leather and raw fabric into Tarred Fabric, both of which are essential materials for armor crafting and shipbuilding. Animal hides gathered from hunting are useless until processed here, making the Tanning Rig a vital link in the material supply chain.

Tanned Leather is required for medium and heavy armor recipes at the Armor and Clothing Workshop, particularly for sets like the Conquistador's Armor and Pikeman's Armor. Tarred Fabric is used in waterproofing ship components at the Shipwright's Workshop and in certain advanced building recipes. Both outputs see heavy use throughout the game.

Build the Tanning Rig alongside the Spinning Wheel to ensure you can produce both Linen Fabric and Tanned Leather for your Armor and Clothing Workshop. Place it near your hide storage and craft in batches to keep a surplus on hand. The Tanning Rig has low construction costs relative to its importance, so there is no reason to delay building one.
