Overpenetration

Overpenetration is a Tier 2 Marksman talent that causes your shots to penetrate through enemies, hitting targets behind them with reduced damage. The post-penetration damage penalty starts at 50% at rank 1 and decreases to just 20% at rank 3, meaning your shots retain 80% of their damage after passing through the first target. This talent transforms single-target weapons into tools of area denial, letting you damage entire lines of enemies with a single well-placed shot.

Overpenetration is uniquely powerful in encounters against grouped enemies, where a single Musket round can damage two or three targets standing in a line. Combined with Deep Impact's pierce bonus and Firearm Training's ranged damage increase, each penetrating shot carries substantial damage to every target it passes through. Extended Reach further amplifies this in long-range scenarios where enemies tend to cluster at chokepoints. Sniper's Focus stacks also apply to the initial shot's full damage, making the first impact devastating while the penetrating hit still deals meaningful damage to anything behind.

For build advice, Overpenetration at rank 3 is a strong capstone for sniper-oriented Marksman builds that engage enemies at range where they tend to line up. It is less effective for Pistol builds or Muzzle Reach setups, where enemies surround you from multiple angles rather than standing in convenient lines. Max rank is important here because the difference between 50% and 80% retained damage is enormous for the talent's practical value. Pair Overpenetration with Bull's Eye and the Marksman's Rig armor set for a build that deals catastrophic damage to priority targets while softening everything nearby. Consider it the finishing piece of a full sniper loadout alongside Extended Reach and Sniper's Focus.
