Rage
Buff
Rage is a self-buff granted by the Executioner halberd, rewarding aggressive combat with escalating critical hit chance. Each stack of Rage provides a +10% bonus to critical hit rate, and the effect caps at 3 stacks for a total of +30% crit chance. This transforms the Executioner from a standard heavy weapon into a crit-focused powerhouse, especially during prolonged fights where stacks have time to build. The synergy between Rage and critical-hit-dependent effects like Distortion makes the Executioner a versatile choice for players who want both raw power and tactical utility.
At the Epic rarity tier, the Executioner gains an additional benefit: reaching maximum Rage stacks also grants the Ward buff, providing +15% damage reduction. This dual reward system makes the Epic Executioner one of the most self-sufficient weapons in Windrose, as the wielder becomes both more dangerous and more durable the longer a fight continues. Players building around Rage should invest in talents that sustain combat momentum, such as lifesteal or stamina regeneration, to ensure they can maintain pressure long enough to hit 3 stacks. Once Rage and Ward are both active, the Executioner wielder becomes an extremely formidable frontline combatant.
Fighting against a Rage-stacked Executioner user requires a hit-and-run approach. Since Rage rewards sustained engagement, the best counterplay is to deny extended combat. Strike quickly, then retreat to force Rage stacks to decay before re-engaging. Ranged weapons like the Dragon's Breath blunderbuss or the Cutlass paired with Take Aim! allow you to deal damage from a safe distance without feeding Rage stacks. If you must engage in melee, focus on crowd control and stagger effects to interrupt attack chains and prevent the wielder from reaching maximum stacks and the dangerous Ward threshold.
