Plague Marks

Debuff

Plague Marks is a debuff applied by the Rapier of Devastation, stacking up to a maximum of 8 times on a single target. Each light attack with the rapier adds another Plague Mark, visually branding the target with an increasingly ominous corruption effect. On their own, Plague Marks do not deal direct damage, but they serve as a powerful setup mechanic. The true devastation comes when the wielder triggers a Heavy Attack, which consumes all accumulated Plague Marks at once and converts them into a single burst of massive damage proportional to the number of stacks consumed.

Mastering Plague Marks demands patience and precision. The optimal strategy is to weave light attacks to build stacks as quickly as possible, then unleash a Heavy Attack at maximum stacks for the highest possible burst. Reaching 8 stacks before consuming them is ideal, but in fast-paced encounters it may be more practical to consume at 4 or 5 stacks rather than risk losing the opportunity. Talents that increase attack speed help accumulate marks faster, while stamina management talents ensure you have enough energy reserved for the Heavy Attack finisher. The Rapier of Devastation pairs well with Vulnerability debuffs to amplify the burst window even further.

Counterplay against Plague Marks centers on denying the buildup phase. Since the rapier requires multiple consecutive hits to reach high stacks, dodging or blocking the light attack chain prevents meaningful accumulation. If you notice Plague Marks stacking on you, disengage before the wielder can land a Heavy Attack. Shields and parry mechanics are particularly effective here, as a successful parry interrupts the combo and wastes the attacker's stamina. Armor with high physical resistance also reduces the impact of the final burst, making tanky builds naturally more resilient against Plague Mark strategies.
