Status Effect
Corruption
Buff
Corruption is a unique self-buff status effect that accumulates on the wielder rather than the target. Applied through attacks with the Arboris Saber and the Plague Halberd, Corruption stacks up to 5 times and represents the growing dark energy channeled through these cursed weapons. Unlike most status effects in Windrose, Corruption is not a debuff to be avoided; it is a resource to be cultivated. Each stack brings the wielder closer to unleashing a devastating special attack that can turn the tide of any encounter.
Once Corruption reaches its maximum of 5 stacks, the wielder unlocks access to a powerful [F] attack, a signature finishing move that consumes all accumulated Corruption for massive damage. Building stacks efficiently requires landing consistent hits, so players should prioritize attack chains that connect reliably. The Arboris Saber favors quick slashing combos to build stacks rapidly, while the Plague Halberd offers a slower but safer approach with its longer reach. Talents that improve hit consistency or grant bonus attacks synergize extremely well with Corruption-based builds, allowing players to reach 5 stacks faster and unleash the [F] attack more frequently.
When fighting against Corruption-wielding enemies, watch for visual cues indicating high stack counts. Interrupting their attack chains before they reach 5 stacks is the best counterplay, as the [F] attack deals extreme damage. Stagger effects, knockbacks, and crowd control abilities are all effective at resetting their momentum. If you see an opponent glowing with full Corruption stacks, create distance immediately or prepare a well-timed dodge to avoid the finishing strike. Players who respect the buildup window and punish during the early stacking phase will find Corruption users far less threatening.
