Cooking and Consumables Guide: Best Recipes and Buffs
Date Published

Food and potions are not optional in Windrose. They are the difference between winning and losing tough fights, between efficient farming runs and constant respawning. This guide covers the cooking system, the best recipes for every situation, and how to keep a steady supply of powerful consumables.
How Cooking Works
Cooking in Windrose uses the Cooking Fire station. Place raw ingredients in the station, select a recipe, and wait for the cooking process to complete. Most recipes require 2-4 ingredients, and the resulting dish provides a timed buff when consumed. Only one food buff can be active at a time; eating a new dish replaces the previous buff.
Ingredient quality matters. Higher-tier ingredients from dangerous areas produce more powerful dishes. A meal crafted from Swamp-tier ingredients will always outperform one made from Starting Island materials.
Essential Early-Game Recipes
Dodo Broth
One of the first recipes you will learn. Dodo Broth provides a simple health regeneration buff that is invaluable in the early hours when your gear is weak and healing options are limited. Made from Bird Meat and basic herbs.
Coconut Milk With Bananas
An easy-to-craft drink that restores health and provides a mild stamina regeneration buff. The ingredients are abundant on the Starting Island, making this a reliable staple before you have access to better recipes.
Coffee
Provides a stamina recovery buff that is useful for both combat and exploration. When you are sprinting between resource nodes or dodging through enemy attacks, faster stamina recovery is always welcome.
Mid-Game Recipes
Taco
A surprisingly effective mid-tier meal that provides balanced offensive and defensive buffs. The ingredients are available in Tier 2 areas and the recipe is straightforward.
Refreshing Tomato Juice
A drink focused on stamina. This is a go-to choice for ranged builds that need to constantly reposition, or for heavy weapon users who burn stamina quickly on their slower attack combos.
Fish and Tostones
A hearty meal offering a strong health regeneration buff. Fish can be gathered from coastal areas and Tostones use common Tier 2 ingredients. This is the workhorse meal of mid-game progression.
Pastechi
A portable, filling meal with a good balance of health and stamina buffs. Keep a stack of these in your inventory for general exploration.
Late-Game Recipes
Crab Soup with Diced Tomatoes
One of the strongest healing foods in the game. The combination of Crab meat and tomatoes produces a dish with powerful health regeneration that stacks extremely well with the Tracker's Leathers 4-piece bonus (+45% healing effectiveness). This is the premier sustain food for boss fights.
Meat in Tangy Mushroom Sauce
A gourmet dish that provides a significant damage boost alongside moderate healing. The mushroom ingredients come from the Cursed Swamps biome, making this a reward for braving Tier 3 content. Ideal for damage-focused builds heading into boss encounters.
Spicy Skewered Crab
Offers an offensive buff focused on critical hit chance. Pair this with Privateer's Regalia armor for a critical-strike-focused build that melts through enemies.
Chowder
A thick, restorative soup that provides the best overall health regeneration in the game. The recipe requires diverse ingredients from multiple tiers, making it a commitment to prepare but absolutely worth it for endgame content.
Specialty Drinks
Sweet Lime Juice
A refreshing citrus drink that provides a mild defensive buff. Good for explorers who expect to take incidental damage but do not need combat-focused food.
Spicy Swamp Juice
A potent drink brewed from Swamp ingredients that boosts damage resistance. Excellent for tanky builds heading into dangerous areas.
Refreshing Nut Drink
Provides a balanced stamina and health recovery buff. The nut ingredients are available across multiple tiers, making this recipe accessible throughout the game.
Tangy Nut Roll
A portable snack with a quick consumption animation. When you need a buff but cannot afford to stand still eating a full meal mid-combat, the Tangy Nut Roll's fast eat speed is a lifesaver.
Cooking Tips
Always keep a stack of your best food buff active. The stat benefits are too significant to ignore.
Batch-cook when you return to base. Prepare 10-20 portions at a time so you always have food ready.
Different recipes suit different activities. Use damage food for boss fights and healing food for exploration and farming.
The Homeward Journey consumable is not a food item but deserves a mention: it teleports you back to your base. Keep one on hand for emergencies.
Investing in Toughguy's Stitches and Rum talent amplifies all food healing, making every recipe more effective.
