Tar

Tar is a dark, viscous resource found in Swamp biomes. It has specialized uses in waterproofing and fabric treatment, making it a niche but valuable material for players pursuing advanced armor crafting. Swamps can be dangerous, so gathering Tar requires preparation.

Travel to Swamp biomes on mid-tier or advanced islands to find Tar deposits. Swamps are hazardous environments with difficult terrain and hostile creatures, so bring adequate weapons, healing supplies, and be ready for ambushes. Tar deposits appear as dark, bubbling pools or sticky patches on the ground.

The primary use for Tar is crafting Tarred Fabric at the Tanning Rig (1 Linen Fabric + 1 Tar). Tarred Fabric is a waterproofed textile used in advanced armor sets that offer superior protection. Since Swamp trips can be costly in terms of supplies and risk, gather Tar in bulk during each visit to minimize the number of return trips needed.
