Pirate
The Pirate is a human enemy type ranging from Level 2 to Level 5, found at Pirate Camps scattered across the islands of Windrose. These hostile seafarers have established fortified encampments throughout the archipelago, where they hoard stolen goods, stockpile weapons, and guard their territory with lethal intent. Pirates represent a major step up from the wildlife encounters of the early game, as they wield actual weapons, employ tactical positioning, and can overwhelm unprepared players with coordinated attacks. They are among the first human opponents new adventurers will face, and their camps serve as a proving ground for players ready to move beyond simple animal hunting.
Pirates drop some of the most sought-after resources in the early and mid game. Gunpowder is their signature drop and an essential crafting material used in explosives, ammunition, and various advanced recipes. Pirate Camps are in fact one of the most reliable sources of Gunpowder in the entire game, making regular raids on these locations a priority for players pushing into Tier 2 and Tier 3 content. In addition to Gunpowder, Pirates can drop various weapons including swords, pistols, and other armaments that range in quality. These weapon drops can be a significant upgrade for players still carrying starter gear, and even experienced players may find useful sidegrade options among the loot.
Fighting Pirates effectively requires a tactical approach. Before charging into a Pirate Camp, scout the perimeter to count how many enemies are present and note their patrol patterns. Pulling one or two Pirates at a time with ranged attacks is far safer than rushing into the center and drawing the entire camp's aggro. Pirates with melee weapons will close distance quickly and attack with fast combos, while ranged Pirates will hang back and pepper you with shots from a distance. Prioritize the ranged threats first when possible, using cover and terrain to block their line of sight as you close in. A shield is valuable against melee Pirates, and medium armor offers the best balance of protection and mobility for these fights. Always bring plenty of healing supplies, because even a small camp of three or four Pirates can deal substantial cumulative damage over a prolonged engagement.
