Co-op and Multiplayer Guide: Playing Windrose With Friends

Date Published

Windrose boss battle combat

Windrose supports solo play and cooperative play with up to four players. This guide covers what is confirmed about multiplayer as of Early Access v0.10. Specific scaling numbers, party-size coefficients, and exclusive co-op content are not yet documented by the developer; only the basics below are officially confirmed.

Supported Modes

Solo offline: playable entirely single-player without an internet connection. Co-op: up to four players in a shared session, either over the internet or on dedicated servers. The developer recommends the game as a four-player experience, though it plays comfortably at smaller sizes.

Dedicated server hosting is supported. Windrose v0.10.0.1.6 (launch hotfix, 2026-04-14) disabled the access-token generation cooldown for dedicated servers and extended host startup timeout to five minutes to alleviate connectivity issues. Server-version checking was also added, with clear error messaging when server and client versions mismatch.

PvE Only

Windrose is a PvE (player versus environment) game at Early Access launch. There is no PvP mode in v0.10. PvP features are listed on the developer roadmap as planned but not committed to a specific release window.

Difficulty Scaling in Co-op

Boss fights scale with party size. The v0.10.0.1.6 hotfix (2026-04-14) corrected boss scaling specifically for fights with four or more players, indicating that multi-player scaling is a live system in EA. Exact scaling coefficients have not been published by the developer.

Cross-Platform

At Early Access launch Windrose is Steam-only on PC. Console versions are on the roadmap but not available in v0.10.

Co-op Readiness Checklist

Before starting a co-op session: make sure every party member is on the same game version (the client will refuse to connect to mismatched servers as of 0.10.0.1.6), have a ship ready for the host if the group plans to travel together, and discuss who will specialize into which of the four talent branches (Fencer, Crusher, Marksman, Toughguy) so the party has complementary roles.

What We Do Not Know Yet

The following details circulate in community guides but are not confirmed by the developer as of 2026-04-17: exact party-size health/damage coefficients, loot instancing rules, any co-op exclusive raids or dungeons, shared-progression rules for host and guest worlds. This section will be updated as official information becomes available.
